Job Summary

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a Computer Science Residential Faculty member to apply innovative, collaborative, and interactive teaching methods while working with students from diverse backgrounds. This position will focus on Computer Science courses within the Instructional Computing division, where the instructor will strengthen and further enhance a thriving Computer Science program. Our courses include programming, data structures, digital design, computer architecture, and other Computer Science topics. We provide quality instruction to a wide range of students in-person, hybrid and online. These are rigorous, academic courses with most students proceeding on to a university.

Essential Functions

Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students, including students in a classroom and/or lab setting, online or hybrid, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats; uses learning-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and success; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques.

Assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning; tracks and analyzes course, program, and college learning outcomes.

Develops instructional materials and curriculum; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials.

Maintains office hours to assist, tutor, mentor, and advise students to promote learning, good citizenship, and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects; participates in STEM programs and activities; cultivates relationships with business and industry to identify new programs and work skills.

Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops; develops and enhances knowledge of computer pedagogy; participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students; performs other related duties commensurate to the level of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field

OR

A Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field



The following disciplines meet the requirements to teach in this field:

Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer Engineering, Computer Systems Analysis, Artificial Intelligence. The preceding list of sub disciplines within the field of Computer Science is intended as representative and does not limit acceptance of similar titles by the Computer Science Instructional Council.

Any coursework that does not have a Computer Science Prefix, but has Master's Level Computer Science Competencies

Desired Qualifications

A. Experience teaching Computer Science subjects, e.g. computer programming, data structures, digital design, and computer organization.

B. Higher Education teaching experience utilizing a variety of delivery formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online.

C. A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.

D. Experience with teaching or training methods that promote student engagement using experiential, collaborative and/or active learning.

E. Experience working with and instructing individuals with diverse abilities and/or cultural backgrounds.

F. Experience collaborating and developing course curriculum, instructional materials, syllabi and other educational materials.
