  • Job Summary

    GateWay Community College is now hiring! This position reports to the Department / Division Chair and provides fundamental nursing theory, skills lab, clinical, and simulation-based instruction to a diverse student population.

    Communication and collaboration with students, faculty, administrators, and other campus departments whose mission is focused on student success is required. This position also requires theoretical and clinical nursing knowledge as this person provides theory, clinical laboratory, simulation, and instruction to nursing students from diverse backgrounds.

    The primary teaching focus will be the Maricopa Nursing RN program. A master's degree in nursing is required to teach the theoretical component of the Maricopa Nursing RN program.

  • Will require some evenings and weekends.
  • Applicant must hold a master's degree to teach the theoretical components of the program.
  • Applicant must have recent long-term / skilled nursing / or medical surgical nursing experience.
  • New Faculty will be required to complete a mandatory faculty training (Springboard to Success) within your first semester.
  • Essential Functions

  • Design, facilitate, and assess student learning through in-person and hybrid modalities.
  • Role model the registered nurse's professional qualities to students in customer service, collaboration, communication, caring, and holism.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to student learning by aligning teaching and learning activities with curriculum using adult learning principles.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    1. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree plus three (3) years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care, or a BSN and a graduate degree and two (2) years experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care, or a graduate degree in nursing and two (2) years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care

    2. Must hold an Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona by the first day of employment.

    3. Must be able to meet health and safety requirements including CPR certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, and drug testing.

    Desired Qualifications

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
  • Three (3) or more years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care on a long-term care / skilled nursing / or medical-surgical unit.
  • One (1) or more years of classroom teaching experience working with students in a nursing program.
  • One (1) or more years of clinical / lab teaching experience working with students in a nursing program.
  • One or more years of experience using simulation technology (e.g. Laerdal, Gaumard, and CAE manikins; video capturing technology; and running scenarios).
  • Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during the interview / selection process will be at the candidate's own expense
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends
  • May be required to instruct at multiple sites and / or teach days, evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May require lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs
  • Possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card required
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases
  • Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters
