  • Job Summary

    This position begins August 15, 2025.

    The Performing Arts Department of Glendale Community College (AZ) is seeking an artist / teacher of Piano. The music program within the Performing Arts Department serves nearly 200 music majors and offers an Associate of Arts in Fine Arts degree for transfer and an Associate of Arts in Sciences degree in audio production technologies. The successful candidate will demonstrate past experience as a successful teacher and collaborator and will teach courses in class piano and applied piano. The candidate will recruit and advise piano students, assist in the hiring of adjunct faculty for the piano program. They will supervise the maintenance of the piano inventory and maintain budgets and scholarships for piano music students. The successful candidate may be asked to fulfill other departmental needs in related areas of expertise including music theory and aural perception, music ensembles, musical theatre, music technology, and other performance areas such as chamber music, popular music, jazz and / or non-Western music. Glendale Community College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

    Essential Functions

  • Teach a progressive 4-semester course of class piano
  • Teach all levels of applied (private) piano
  • Recruit and retain students interested in piano performance and music education
  • Procure, manage and maintain the piano inventory
  • Oversee the piano budget and scholarships
  • Teach additional classes in related area of musical expertise, as assigned
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Master's Degree or higher in one of the following fields :

  • Music, any specialization
  • OR, a Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes / subjects :

  • MHL, MUP, MUC, MTC, MUS
  • OR, a Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords :

  • Music Theory, Music Performance, Music History, Music Therapy
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Recent college experience teaching Class Piano
  • Recent experience teaching Applied Piano
  • Experience working or teaching in collaborative piano, musical theatre, and / or piano pedagogy
  • Experience working or teaching in one or more related classical music fields that are not piano (e.g., music theory and aural perception, large musical ensembles and / or chamber music)
  • Experience working or teaching in one or more related contemporary music fields that are not piano (e.g., music technology, music business and other performance areas such as popular music, jazz and / or non-Western music)
  • Experience working or teaching in one or more related contemporary music fields that are not piano (e.g., music technology, music business and other performance areas such as popular music, jazz and / or non-Western music)
  • DMA (Director of Musical Arts) or PhD in music with graduate-level coursework in piano
  • Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during interview / selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs
