Job Summary

Gateway Community College is seeking to fill two full-time residential faculty positions for Fall 2025. The positions will supervise and instruct a diverse population of students in classroom/lab/clinical on topics in Respiratory Care.

Essential Functions

  • Instructs a diverse population of students in lecture, lab, on-line, and clinical settings
  • (Including HUG Clinic) on topics in respiratory therapy education; Develop and deliver engaging course content that aligns with current industry standards and accreditation requirements. Integrate evidence-based practices and advancements in the healthcare field into the curriculum. Stay informed on the latest healthcare research, trends, and technologies to ensure course material remains relevant and up to date.
  • Maintains office hours to support and advise respiratory care students, participates in campus and district committees, and contributes to program-related reporting, including tracking enrollment, completion rates, student success, and assessment outcomes. Collaborates on marketing strategies to promote enrollment growth aligned with the healthcare industry's demand for respiratory care professionals.
  • Conduct clinical site visits to evaluate and support students in achieving required competencies while fostering strong partnerships with clinical site staff and ensuring alignment with program standards.
  • Uphold department standards of collaboration, teamwork, and open communication to foster a mutual respect among faculty, staff and students.
  • Participates in department, college, and district activities, meetings, and committees to support operational and academic goals. Stays current in respiratory care education through professional development, including conferences, courses, and workshops. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains NBRC credential and Arizona State Respiratory Care Practitioner license.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Must hold a current license for Respiratory Therapist (RCP) by the Arizona State Board of Respiratory Care Examiners and have an active RRT credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care

    2. A Bachelor's degree plus 3 years work experience in field to be taught, or an Associate's degree and 5 years work experience in field to be taught, or 5 years work experience in the field to be taught (Respiratory Care)

    Desired Qualifications

    A. Two (2) years teaching experience in healthcare at a college or technical school.

    B. Experience in Intensive Care setting.

    C. Experience in clinical instruction or preceptorship.

    D. Experience with (online systems, i.e. Google Suite or equivalent, SIS, Learning Management System, etc.)

    E. Experience with long term care, pediatrics, vascular access, pulmonary rehabilitation and patient education.

    F. Experience working with a diverse population of patients and/or students.

    Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends
  • May be required to instruct at multiple sites and/or teach days, evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May require lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases
