What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal (Adjunct) position at Maricopa Community Colleges?
PVCC is seeking an adjunct who instructs students from various backgrounds and/or cultures in paralegal classes and in accordance with the college's learning-centered philosophy. Serves as an adjunct instructor for Introduction to the Paralegal Profession (PAR 101), Paralegal Research, Analysis, and Writing I & II (PAR 102 & 103), Ethics for the Paralegal (PAR 104), and additional paralegal courses.
Uses multiple methods of instruction, assessment results, and appropriate technologies to engage students in learning, enhance teaching, and promote student success. Demonstrates a commitment to service, excellence, innovation, assessment, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties. The instructor may teach in a traditional classroom setting or in a non-traditional hybrid course incorporating in-person teaching.
The immediate need is for an instructor to teach day (early afternoon) classes. May be required to teach at Union Hills and/or Black Mountain locations.
Preferred qualifications include experience teaching law or paralegal studies at the college level; however, significant professional legal experience may be accepted as a substitute for teaching experience.
Teaching, preparing and conducting college-level classes.
Teaches various populations of students by incorporating multiple methods of instruction and assessment; May be required to teach in a classroom setting, in-person, online or hybrid, and other alternative schedules and formats.
Develops written syllabi/course materials, evaluates student knowledge of subject matter taught and maintains course grades, prepares and grades exams and other assignments.
Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual teaching skills required to maintain current with new trends and developments in the field.
May assist in advising students; may actively participate in division activities; performs related duties commensurate to the level of the position.

- Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop and deliver engaging course materials, including lectures, presentations, and instructional resources, for various paralegal (PAR) courses.
- A broad knowledge base and professional experience in law and the paralegal field, covering topics such as the paralegal profession, legal writing, paralegal ethics, civil procedure, tort law, and business law.
- Proficiency in legal software, online legal research tools, and relevant legal practice and education applications.
- The ability to provide effective instruction for assigned courses, whether in-person or through online/distance learning formats.
- Instructors should be able to assess student work, offer academic support, and stay current in the field.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including high school students in dual enrollment programs, is preferred.
- Candidates must be willing to teach in various formats depending on need, including weekday afternoons, evenings, online, hybrid, dual enrollment, and weekend classes.
