About the Position
The Operations & Maintenance Supervisor for the Roadway Maintenance Division is responsible for directing the daily activities of an average of fifteen employees, including a Field Supervisor, Crew Leaders, Sign Technicians, and Sign Fabrication Technicians.
This position is an opportunity to use your skills, training, and strengths to lead a team that responds to customer concerns and performs scheduled maintenance for the safety of the traveling public. You will get a feeling of accomplishment by directly serving the needs of residents through supervising a team of roadway specialists, managing emergency situations, and monitoring goals and objectives to meet the department's priorities. Your work will impact the citizens of Maricopa County by problem-solving to mitigate issues and find solutions to extend the life of our transportation assets. You will have direct interaction with internal and external customers, including employees, residents, and other agencies.

Direct the daily activities of assigned staff; coordinate and schedule staff, vehicles, and equipment. Review the work of assigned staff to assure the quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities. Maintain accurate records in the MCDOT asset management system. Prepare reports on utilization, progress, and other areas as neededRespond to inquiries, complaints, and concerns from the general public and various governmental agencies within standard timelines to provide updates, answer questions, and discuss solutionsPrepare cost estimates for budget recommendation, preparation, and projections. Prepare budget requests and monitor and control expenditures within approved budget limitsDesign placements of traffic signing installations and relocations per County, state, and federal standards. Inspect contractor maintenance work to provide final acceptance of material and services. Update asset inventory using asset management software.Dispatch and account for crew activity during emergency events. Coordinate with County and Federal agencies for emergency preparedness activities and exercisesWork with employees to correct performance deficiencies; counsel and implement discipline procedures as neededEnsure all tasks are completed within financial guidelines and in compliance with all operational traffic control (MUTCD), safety rules and regulations, and MCDOT policies, procedures, and standardsIdentifies and coordinates in-house training, mentorship, and safety programsTravel to various locations to conduct and participate in field visits, meetings, and coordination with staff.Other job duties as assignedWorking Conditions
This position requires the employee to be in the office / field or customer-facing for all hours workedExerting 20 - 25 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantlyThe work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions : Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
