The Water / Wastewater Engineer provides professional engineering work of considerable difficulty to ensure water and wastewater treatment plants and conveyance facilities, reclaimed water facilities, and swimming pool facilities are planned, designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with regulatory, code, and engineering design requirements to protect public health and safety. In this role, you will routinely network with representatives from municipal, county, state, professional organizations, and the development industry while carrying out duties.

We Require
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, or other engineering field that includes course work in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and water and wastewater system designTwo years of engineering experience in the planning, design, construction, maintenance, inspection, operation, and / or permitting of water supply, distribution, and treatment facilities and wastewater conveyance, treatment, and disposal facilitiesRegistered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Arizona or show proof of eligibility for reciprocity and obtain Arizona registration within six months from the date of hireMust possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hireWe Also Value

Perform detailed technical engineering analysis of proposed water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, code, and engineering design requirements. Use hydrology, hydraulic, chemical, biological, soil mechanics, or other civil and environmental engineering standard analytical techniques and calculations. Recommend design changes to ensure the constructed facility or system will meet regulatory requirements and protect public health and safetyAnswer technical inquiries from and interact with customers (developers, engineers, applicants, owners, and consultants) to process applications that require engineering expertiseReceive and provide cross-training and contribute across all Water and Waste Management Division Programs, including the Treatment Program (treatment plant plan review and inspection), the Subdivision Program (water / wastewater infrastructure), the Aquatics / Pool Program (commercial / public pool plan review), the Drinking Water Program (sanitary surveys of public water systems), and the On-Site Septic Program (on-site septic system plan review)Conduct on-site inspections of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water facilities and systems during construction and after approval to determine whether facilities are operated in compliance with approved plans and specifications and applicable regulatory and code requirements. This includes inspections of complex water and wastewater treatment plantsReview completed project documentation submitted by the engineer of record to determine compliance with approved plans and permit stipulations. Work with the owner to resolve problems or follow up with the enforcement division as requiredDevelop testing protocols and review plans for the commissioning of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water facilities and systemsUse personal notes, department forms, and personal or portable computers to document results of program-related activities in detailed technical reports and transfer records and program data into electronic databases following established protocolsReview water and wastewater operational water quality testing data to determine compliance with approved plans, specifications, stipulations, and code and regulatory requirementsIdentify non-compliant construction and operations and apply enforcement policies. Advise, explain, and educate permit holders, stakeholders, and the public about environmental / public health issues, regulations, safety, policy, and complianceMay oversee the work of other staff, including providing workflow, assignments, training, and guidance to junior staffWorking Conditions
