Position Overview:
Detention Officers are responsible for the custody, control, care, and welfare of inmates at jail facilities in Maricopa County. Our Team acts as the supervisory authority on matters concerning inmates and housing unit activities. Detention Officer’s establish and maintain positive direction to inmates under their care.
To be part of our department:
- Must have a high school diploma, GED, or graduating within 90 days – must be 18 years old at time of application
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or be eligible to work in the U.S.
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- No work experience necessary
- Must successfully complete background check, polygraph exam, medical exam, and psychological exam

- Intake and release, work release, visitation, and court services

Lateral Transfer:
Laterals transfers may earn up to $33.50 per hour based on experience.
Have you successfully completed an Arizona detention or corrections academy, or Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA) or have or prior experience working as a detention or corrections officer? We value your prior experience and academy completion. Lateral candidates will participate in an accelerated 5-week academy!
Military experience encouraged.
