Position Qualifications

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Education; other degrees may qualify when combined with Master's Degree in Education.
Experience
- Three (3) years of classroom teaching experience with a minimum of one year of experience teaching basic education classes to students age 16 years and above.
OR
Combined education and experience qualifications
- Other combinations of advanced education and experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.
Other requirements
- Arizona State Department of Education Certification in adult education, elementary, secondary, or special education.
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

- Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience.
- Lead, supervisory, or administrative experience working in the education field in grades 6-12.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certified; Positive Behavior Intervention and upport (PBIS) training.

Essential Job Tasks
(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)
- Assists with planning, organizing, and supervision in the operation of the Education Section.
- Participates in the development and training of strategic plans to meet goals and improve on deficiencies of the Education Section.
- Monitors the working environment (classroom walk-throughs); ensures policies and procedures are adhered to and that jail security regulations are enforced.
- Assists with formulating policies and procedures for new or revised programs/activities, (e.g., screening, placement, education, training of students and teachers).
- Participates in the hiring and training of adult education teachers and adult education staff.
- Supervises staff; coaches, mentors, and manages performance; prepares employee appraisals.
- Assists with the development and implementation of internal monitoring system to meet compliance with the AZ Department of Education and Federal guidelines.
- Supports teachers and teacher assistants in classroom management and academics.
- Attends orientations and graduations and interacts with student inmates.
- Serves as backup testing administrator/proctor for G.E.D. testing.
- Travels between jail facilities as required.
- Performs duties as substitute teacher as required.
- Supports students with transition services.
- Assists students with career planning.
- Conducts staff meetings; attends Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and conferences/trainings to maintain professional effectiveness.
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure optimal functioning of the Education Section.
