About the Position

As a Crew Leader, you will lead a team dedicated to ensuring public service is provided promptly, efficiently, and safely. You will lead work crews in a construction and maintenance environment, including prioritizing and assigning tasks, assuring rules and regulations are observed on the job site, and performing other construction and maintenance activities as required.

These positions will be assigned to either the MCDOT Surprise Yard, located at 12975 W Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ 85378, or MCDOT Highway Operations, located at 2919 W Durango St, Phoenix, AZ 85009.

We Require

• High school diploma or GED

• Two years of experience in skilled construction or maintenance

• Must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

We Also Value

• ATTSA Traffic Control certification

• Experience in guardrail installation and repair, landscaping tools, and cattle guard repair

• Knowledge of road maintenance and repair methods and materials

• Skilled in establishing effective working relationships with others

• Skilled in effective communication, both verbal and written

Job Contributions

• Lead work crews performing construction and maintenance activities

• Prioritize and assign tasks; assure that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the

• job site

• Monitor and enforce adherence to division policies, procedures, and standards

• Supervise the repair of roadway surfaces, culverts, shoulders, and guardrails

• Supervise traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards; perform tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies

• Operate a variety of trucks, equipment, and hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations

• and procedures

• Complete work orders to meet Division standards; prepare daily activity and material and equipment usage reports

• Instruct crew in the proper use and maintenance of equipment

• Transport work crews to and from work sites

• Perform a variety of miscellaneous support tasks and other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

• This position requires the employee in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

• Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

• Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware

• Gannon, backhoe, skid steer, road broom, hand tools, chain saw, pole saw, weed trimmer, concrete mixer, mini-excavator, and Cartegraph

Protective Equipment Required

• Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, safety vest, steel toe boots, and hearing protection
