We Require
Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and a valid, unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing OR graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program with a valid unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the State of Arizona.

Job Contributions
Collaborates and communicates with hospitals, medical providers, community agencies, state and federal agencies, and other counties regarding continuity of medical care
Makes recommendations to management in writing protocols, policies, and procedures to support surveillance, data analysis, and other activities
Obtains history and completes physical examinations of patients incarcerated in Maricopa County jails
Evaluates and treats patients as medically indicated in compliance with CHS policies and procedures
Documents patient encounters according to CHS protocols in a SOAPE format in the progress notes or on the appropriate CHS clinical form
Develops and updates individualized treatment plans for patients with chronic conditions or special needs
Orders onsite lab work, radiology studies, treatments, and medications as medically indicated
Refers patients to external service providers, including specialists, diagnostic studies, and other services as medically indicated
Performs minor procedures such as sutures, incision, and drainage of abscesses, simple splints, punch biopsies, and pelvic exams
Participates in peer review, in-service training, quality improvement processes, and other meetings necessary to improve patient care
Maintains applicable licensure and skills according to the requirements by state law, department policies, and licensure agencies
Responsible for periodic after-hours phone calls for the patients in Maricopa County Jails
Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, Mental Health Director, or other designees
Working Conditions
Must be able to work inside a jail, near inmates and other staff in a confined area, handling multiple or complicated tasks managing a high volume of work under short deadlines, time pressures, frequently changing duties, and unscheduled tasks
Must be able to respond to emergencies and be assigned to various clinical locations in the Phoenix area within a 5-mile radius
Ability to get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney that may weigh up to 35 pounds
Teleworking, hybrid schedules, nights, and weekend work may be required
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program with NCCPA Board Certification with a valid unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the State of Arizona
- Board certification in Advanced Nursing Practice from the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a DEA certification upon hire
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a CPR certification upon hire
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain an NPI number upon hire
