The Director of Athletics, Activities, and Access oversees a comprehensive range of district-wide athletic programs, recreational and enrichment activities, and community engagement initiatives to support students, staff, and community members. This role requires strong leadership, organization, communication, and a commitment to ethical behavior, equity, and confidentiality.

Required License/Certification

Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise the district's athletic programs and ensure accessibility for all through community engagement initiatives.
- Design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate educational, recreational, and enrichment activities for students and, as appropriate, residents of Maricopa, including sports camps, leagues, tournaments, classes, Special Olympics, and special events.
- Ensure all programs comply with applicable laws, regulations, rules, and district policies.
- Monitor day-to-day program operations, evaluating effectiveness and recommending improvements.
- Promote alignment between athletic programs and the district’s overall educational philosophy and commitment to equity.
- Develop, maintain, and supervise effective athletic programs and budgets.
- Evaluate athletic programs at the end of each season and implement recommendations for improvement.
- Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of coaching staff, ensuring adherence to Coaches Code of Ethics and district policies.
- Schedule athletic contests, coordinate calendars, and enforce all rules of eligibility and competition per the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).
- Maintain custodial and maintenance oversight of athletic facilities and equipment.
- Serve as the official school representative at athletic contests, as needed.
- Serve as a liaison between the district, coaching staff, administration, and diverse community stakeholders.
- Develop strategies to ensure equitable access and inclusion in programs for underserved and underrepresented populations.
- Provide timely and accurate information about athletic policies, procedures, and events through media and other communication channels.
- Foster support through booster clubs, recognition programs, and other inclusive marketing initiatives.
- Update district policies and practices per changes to Arizona Revised Statutes, AIA guidelines, and East Valley Conference rules.
- Supervise the development and distribution of athletic and coaches' handbooks.
- Investigate complaints related to athletic programs and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain accurate records of staff time, material usage, equipment, and operational costs.
- Prepare purchase orders, supply requisitions, and reports for district leadership and Governing Board.
- Attend Governing Board meetings and prepare reports as requested.
- Represent the district at local, state, and national meetings related to athletics and community engagement.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Encourage coaching staff to prioritize the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of student-athletes.

- Master's Degree and Administrative Coursework in Education Related Field
- Appropriate Arizona administrative certification
- Demonstrated classroom teaching ability: minimum three years teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of standards and researched-based instruction
- Successful administrative experience
- Required to pass a criminal background check
