POSITION DESCRIPTION: Principal – School Site
General Statement Of Responsibilities
The Principal is the instructional leader and administrative officer of the school responsible for the organization and operation of the school and the supervision of staff and all activities. The Principal is responsible for the improvement of teaching and learning and the total educational process so that students may make progress in all areas.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt, 12-month work calendar, Administrative Compensation Plan: Elementary, Middle or High School Principal
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES And DUTIES
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or related field. Arizona Department of Education Certification as Administrator must be received prior to the start of employment. Preferred - Minimum of three (3) years experience in a management and/or leadership position within the field of education. All positions require experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural competence i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.
Required License/Certification
Arizona Principal Certification must be received prior to the start of employment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES And DUTIES
- Provides leadership in the school community by building and maintaining, vision, direction, and focus on student achievement.
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school’s activities and issues.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
- Maintains active and appropriate relationships with students and parents.
- Leads in the development, determination of appropriate, and monitoring of the instructional program in support of meeting the state standards.
- Promotes the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process rights of students.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
- Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development.
- Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
- Assumes responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of certificated and support staff assigned to the school.
- Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school facilities.
- Utilizes assessment results to improve student achievement.
- Prepares and maintains a school improvement plan.
- Participates in district level committees and teams to further district mission and vision.
- Utilizes sound management principles in the expenditure of school funds and in preparing for other budgetary needs.
- Establishes and solicits support from local community groups, businesses and others to aid in overall achievement of school objectives and programs.
- Conduct staff meetings and assists with appropriate professional development.
- Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of reports, records and all required paperwork appropriate to the school’s operations.
- Performs tasks as related or others as assigned.
