POSITION TITLE:
Adapted Physical Education Teacher
RESPONSIBLE TO:

Certified Position: 189 days

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Valid Georgia teaching certificate in Physical Education required
Adapted curriculum certification preferred
Experience:
Three years classroom experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Planning, implementing and evaluating a physical education and leisure activities for children with disabilities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Provide each child with a disability an opportunity to participate in a specially designed physical education program that cannot be found in the regular physical education program.
- Mainstream students with disabilities into the regular physical education program when appropriate and work with the regular physical education teacher to meet each student’s individual his/her needs.
- Provide training to paraprofessionals so they can deliver specially designed physical education opportunities to students with disabilities in the absence of the adapted physical education teacher.
- Develop plans for each student that enhance their physical and motor fitness skills through the development of fundamental motor skills and patterns, leisure activities, group and individual games and sports.
- Attend placement meetings and complete necessary paperwork regarding IEP’s.
- Review and report student progress on goals and objectives as required by the IEP cycle.
- Support the coordination of Marietta Adapted Games.
- Work in conjunction with classroom staff to provide daily classroom physical education activities.
- Select and order appropriate equipment and materials.
- Evaluate/assess students referred for adapted physical education services.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.

- Ability to interact successfully with school personnel, parents and students.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement activities designed to accomplish predetermined goals and objectives.
