JOB SUMMARY:
The Athletic Trainer coordinates treatment for all minor athletic injuries and conditions at Marietta City Schools. Treatment includes on-site care if needed during games or practices, in addition to developing treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes according to physicians’ instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field required.
Georgia Athletic Training license required.
National Athletic Trainers’ Association certification required.
Experience:
At least two years of experience as a trainer with a collegiate team preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides on-site medical treatment for minor injuries for student athletes
- Attends all Home athletic events for high school as well as middle school football events
- Evaluates and diagnoses injuries for student athletes
- Recommends medical treatment for students, including if and when an injured athlete might return to play
- Coordinates emergency care and transportation, if needed, of student athletes to a medical facility
- Determines student eligibility for injured students, including if or when an injured athlete may return to a game or practice, or when the athlete should not return to play or practice
- Coordinates treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes
- Develops treatment plans for any minor injuries
- Administers treatment and rehabilitation for post-surgery injuries, according to physician’s protocol
- Communicates with parents, coaches, and physicians regarding treatment or rehabilitation for injuries
- Manages documentation and records related to student athletes and athletic injuries
- Maintains records of student athlete pre-participation physicals
- Maintains records of student injuries and treatment provided
- Coordinates athletic training program, including training room
- Organizes inventory and equipment of training room supplies
- Oversees budget for training equipment and medical first aid supplies
- Supervises student athletic trainers as a part of extracurricular sports medicine program
NON-PROGRAM DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete other tasks as assigned by the High School Principal or Athletic Director
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, administrators, coaches, and physicians
- Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities independently and effectively on a daily basis
- Ability to make decisions, solve problems and recommend solutions in a constructive manner
- Knowledge and expertise in the evaluation and treatment of medical injuries, including rehabilitation
Physical Demands:
- Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology.
- Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication.
- Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment varies depending on the sporting event.
