Seasonal Climbing Area Director
Qualifications :
- Be at least 21-years old or older; a mature, responsible adult.
- Previous Scout or youth camp leadership experience desired.
- Have a working knowledge of all BSA-approved climbing and rappelling techniques and safety standards, as well as the Climbing Merit Badge requirements.
- Be in good physical condition and have the experience to lead and teach climbing and rappelling safety skills, and the enthusiastic personality and calm ability to counsel and encourage Scout youth and adult leaders when necessary.
- Hold a current training certification from the BSA National Camping School as a BSA-certified Climbing Director or Level II Climbing Instructor or attend this Spring.
- Must have current certification in American Red Cross, National Safety Council (or similar) First-Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Be currently-registered with a local council of Scouting America or be willing to become a BSA-registered Camp Staff employee of the Marin Council #035.
Responsibilities :
Position Description :
a) Supervise the activities of assigned staff to ensure this program area is set-up and operated in accordance with BSA standards.
b) Operate a quality, safe, and fun Climbing program and ensure this is well-balanced and integrated into the general Camp Program strategy and schedule.
c) Share daily announcements with the Camp Program Director, other Camp Staff members, and all campers concerning the Climbing area programs and activities available.
d) Train and certify assigned staff to BSA Level I Climbing Instructor proficiency, and conduct adult leader BSA Climb On Safely training during each weekly camp session.
e) Supervise the use of and maintain the inventory of climbing gear and equipment, can conduct regular inspections of all ropes, harnesses and helmets in accordance with record log requirements.
f) Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Program Director or Resident Camp Director.
g) By upholding the Scout Oath & Law, and the Aims & Methods of Scouting, be a positive example to all others in dress, speech, and actions.
