We are looking to add a customer-focused team member to our dock staff! Freedom Boat Club is the nation’s oldest and largest private member boat club, and we are looking for friendly and upbeat individuals to greet members and work on the docks. This part-time seasonal position is from May 15th through October 15th and requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Position Details
Job Title: Dockmaster
Job Status: Full-time, part-time, seasonal
Career Level: 3 years’ experience
Minimum Degree: High School graduate or equivalent
Department: Operations Department
Supervisor: Freedom Boat Club (FBC) Operations Manager
Pay Type: $20-$25 per hour based on experience and performance.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Requirements:The Dockmaster is responsible for properly maintaining all FBC vessels to the highest standards, ensuring the safety of those using the boats, prolonging the useful life of the boats, and protecting the clubs’ significant investments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing Freedom Boat Club operations at the specified location.
- Assists with the scheduling of FBC dock staff to ensure adequate coverage while also keeping payroll costs in line with set budgets.
- Coordinate the arrival and departure of boats, ensuring a smooth traffic flow in and out of the marina.
- Assist boat club members with docking and undocking procedures.
- Inspect boats for damage and report maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Ensure that FBC dock staff properly attend to the custodial needs of vessels before and upon the boat's return.
- Implement and enforce dock rules and regulations to ensure the safety of all members.
- Consistently monitor docks for safety and efficiency purposes.
- Assist members with boat reservations.
- Ensure that local club operations meet the FBC Main model standards for dock staff training, member reservation assistance, and overall member experience at the club locations.
- Greet and assist club members, providing exceptional customer service.
- Address member inquiries, concerns, and requests promptly.
- Foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere for members and guests.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures and aid in case of incidents and accidents.
- Oversee the general cleanliness and maintenance of the fleet and dock areas.
- Monitor and enforce safety protocols on the dock, ensuring compliance with boating regulations.
Skills & Requirements
- 2-3 plus years of experience in a marina or hospitality work environment preferred.
- Seeking a candidate that is ethical and accountable, has a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and is a great teammate.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can independently determine an appropriate course of action.
- Must be a self-starter with strong communication and exceptional customer service skills.
- This position requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Comfortable with physical demands of the role, including bending, kneeling, balancing, and carrying equipment up to 30 pounds.
- This position requires the employee to spend 90% of the day outside in all weather conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Background check required for all applicants 21 and over.
