Work Schedule/Start date: Flexible/Starting June through September
Summary:
A Sea Tow Deckhand is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of Sea Tow vessels during towing, salvage, and marine assistance missions. This role is vital to supporting the Captain and ensuring all tasks on deck are executed with precision, professionalism, and safety.
Requirements:Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with vessel handling during towing, salvage, jump starts, ungroundings, and dock-to-dock services
- Safely secure lines, fenders, and towing gear during operations
- Monitor and maintain deck equipment, ensuring it is clean, organized, and operational
- Prepare and deploy oil booms, absorbent materials, and other containment tools as needed
- Respond to emergency situations with calm and efficient action
- Operate in all weather conditions, including during high-stress or time-sensitive scenarios
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing Sea Tow
- Assist with general vessel upkeep, fueling, restocking supplies, and post-operation cleanup
- Communicate effectively with the Captain and fellow crew members
- Follow all safety regulations, protocols, and operational guidelines
Qualifications:
- Basic seamanship knowledge, including knots, line handling, and radio protocol
- Physically able to lift, carry, and handle heavy gear and equipment
- Must be comfortable working on the water in all weather conditions
- Prior marine or boating experience preferred but not required.
- Strong situational awareness and willingness to take direction
- CPR/First Aid certification and TWIC card (if applicable) are preferred, but not required
- Must be drug-free and able to pass USCG/DOT screening requirements

Sea Tow Portland/Midcoast Towing Captains are based out of the following locations: Spring Point Marina, 1 Spring Point Drive in South Portland; Moose Landing Marina in the Sebago Lakes Region, 32 Moose Landing Trail in Naples; Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington St in Bath: Hodgdon Yacht Services Southport Boatyard, 100 Ebenecook Road in Southport; and DiMillo’s Marina, 4 Doans Wharf Rd. in Kennebunk.
