We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Engineering Manager. This position reports to the General Manager and will work in Limerick, PA
As Engineering Manager of the Limerick team, you will oversee day to day operations of the engineering document management team as well as engineering teams supporting new product designs for marine mechanical steering, controls & cables.
General Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the document control team including continuous improvement of processes for improved efficiency
- Develop and effectively lead the Marine Mechanical Steering & Controls design team to support product life cycle management and future growth
- Lead in the design/development of new products and assist in continuous improvement of existing products
- Manage engineering projects utilizing both internal and external resources as required for the development of Marine Steering & Controls marketed by Dometic per project timelines
- Lead the identification and development of new technologies to support revenue growth in Marine Mechanical Control & Steering products
- Develop, manage, and control project and departmental budgets
- Provide technical expertise on projects including product development, improvements, cost reductions, and advanced research
- Assure that the Dometic Product Development process is being followed
- Serve as a local champion for Dometic’s innovation processes
- Provide technical support for other areas of the company such as technical product information, customer service, purchasing, etc
- Assure that personnel are practicing design and drafting standards in accordance with company-recognized practices and maintain a secure and accurate database
- Work closely with the Product Managers to identify product improvement opportunities
- Work with the corporate VP of Engineering to ensure processes and standards are consistent with other locations
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required (mechanical engineer is ideal); Master’s degree preferred
- Experience managing product development from concept to successful launch required (any product)
- Strong management, leadership, and mentoring skills
- Consumer product design experience in mechanical product design and new product development experience, ideally with marine or allied industries
- 7 years related professional experience including 3 years in managing direct reports
- Experience in sheet metal, plastics, electronics, and low voltage electrical systems preferred
- Experience with engineering design software (3D, CREO or SolidWorks preferred)
- Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint; and the ability to learn other applications quickly
- Familiar with ERP systems to control engineering Bills of Materials
- Experience in design procedures, specifications, and engineering software/simulation tools
- Experience with safety regulations (CSA, CE, and other regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO, and familiarity with ISO9001
- User knowledge of QFD and Design and Process FMEAs including Design for Manufacture
- Familiar with volume production processes including casting, extrusions, powder metal, injection molding, precision machining sheet metal fabrication, welding, and circuit board manufacturing
- Strong ability to produce reliable cost-effective designs for industrial applications
- Understanding of test methodology and design of experiments
- Familiarity with plastic injection molding processes
