Position Overview:
The Ecosystems Center is seeking a part-time Laboratory Manager (20 hours per week, ½ time). The Lab Manager must be on-site at least two days per week to oversee operations, and participate in the weekly zoom meeting on Friday AM.

Start: The ideal start date would be June 2, 2025 to overlap with the current laboratory manager but there is some flexibility.

Position Overview:
The Ecosystems Center is seeking a part-time Laboratory Manager (20 hours per week, ½ time). The Lab Manager must be on-site at least two days per week to oversee operations, and participate in the weekly zoom meeting on Friday AM.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Maintenance:
- Conduct daily assessments to ensure lab safety, including monitoring workspace conditions, checking freezer/refrigerator temperatures, inspecting growth chambers, and responding to alarms.
- Order supplies for the general-use laboratory and maintain a chemical inventory.
- Works with the MBL safety office to assure chemical safety compliance.
- Maintain general-use laboratory equipment, including coordinating repairs and calibrations.
- Ensure that common lab spaces, including freezers, refrigerators, and the loading dock, remain organized and clean; coordinate clean-up efforts as needed.
- Oversee vehicle usage and maintenance, including managing reservations, addressing reported maintenance issues, an coordinating necessary repairs and state inspections.
- Train new personnel on laboratory equipment and safety protocols.
- Assist new users with advanced equipment in collaboration with in-house experts.
- Represent the Ecosystems Center on the MBL Laboratory Safety Representative Committee and collaborate with the MBL Safety Office on lab inspections.
- Serve as a liaison with MBL’s Plant Operations and Maintenance Office, communicating updates and issues to Ecosystems Center staff.
- Maintain an inventory of capital equipment including tagging new equipment and updating records in the MBL database.
- Assist departing faculty and staff in ensuring proper handling, transfer, or disposal of samples, supplies, and equipment.
