Duties

Serves as a Data Management Specialist for the Data Management and Analytics Section, Program Assessment, Marine and Family Programs Division, Headquarters, Marine Corps. Provides data management support by performing data collection, cleaning, and management activities in support of data analysis and reporting needs. Collects and organizes data from various resources such as from statistical studies and surveys. Uses data management and reporting systems to collect and organize data drawn from databases. Develops mathematical computations and collection sorts to perform some initial data analysis.

Compiles numerical information. Uses technical expertise with automatic data collection and reporting systems to accomplish work. Liaises and corresponds with commands and other Marine Corps staff to ensure reporting compliance. Uses familiarity with procedural standards and regulations specific to social services areas of research/industry. Provides support and guidance to organization employees on the data collection and management process.

Provide process improvement recommendations to management. Recognizes and modifies problems in data collection and cleaning. Identifies areas in which data is incomplete or lacking, and makes suggestions on corrective actions based upon working knowledge and experience. Reviews and edits incoming data from a variety of sources to verify accuracy and investigates discrepancies. Extracts and compiles information and produces various reports in a variety of formats, such as spreadsheets, presentations, databases, word documents, graphs, and proposals for higher level management. Writes and prepares correspondence, briefs, action documents, routing sheets, and point papers.

May work fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work week and work hours. May travel to complete work assignments and to conduct or attend presentations and meetings.

Provide World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Take action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adhere to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other duties as assigned. Lifts and carries objects where occasional lifting up to 20 pounds may be required.

Qualifications

Bachelor¿s degree in Statistics, Social Science, Public Health or Business Administration or a related field appropriate to work of the position AND three years of experience in a related field such as statistical analysis or research, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. Skill to critically review source data, detect, and correct errors. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with data analysts, project managers, and adjacent teams. Skill to provide training and guidance to application/program users and to make presentations. Expertise in social services related data is a plus.
