MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
JOB SUMMARY
Reads and interprets work specifications to determine manning and materials needed. Schedules work force and manages and directs their activities. Completes required paperwork and fills in for Superintendent in his/her absence.
SUPERVISES
Electrical Leads, Specialists, 1st-3rd Class Electricians, Handypersons and Helpers
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reads and interprets work specifications to plan and execute requirements.
- Plans workload according to specifications and identifies materials needed.
- Schedules manning and coordinates with other departments.
- Manages and directs working crews ensuring quality of work and that safety procedures are followed.
- Provides/schedules training for department employees.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fills in for Electrical Superintendent in his/her absence.
- PWC Coordination NOB/Little Creek.
- Bids and orders materials per work specifications.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum if Ten years’ experience as a Marine Electrician.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program preferred but not required.
- Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to motivate others.
- Good organizational skills.
