MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
MHI is seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist who will be responsible for quality assurance inspections on board ships and in shops during ship repair operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs quality assurance audits or checks assuring the use of correct procedures, materials, processes, and technical instructions. conducts inspections of work areas and other general QA inspections (checkpoints).
- Attends production meetings as necessary to keep up-to-date on job progress. Works with shop superintendents to resolve problems and possible negative workmanship trends.
- As part of availability planning, develops Test and Inspection plan, performs technical review of work specs to ensure compliance with technical requirements, and conducts pre-availability sub-contract/QA meetings to review subcontract requirements.
- Provides the Documenter’s initial and updated information to maintain T & I plan and ensure it remains up to date.
- Observe sub-contractor inspections and reviews sub-contractor procedures for compliance prior to submission for MARMC.
- Upon conclusion of each job (availability), review the final records to be put into storage.
- Maintains equipment and assures calibration for tests to be performed.
- Works with the Lead Quality Assurance Specialist as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum of two years related technical and/or quality experience, preferably in Ship Repair.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation, and QA systems.
- Knowledge of shipboard structures and systems required.
- Must be able to obtain NACE or NBPI certification.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact well with others.
