Compensation Range: $166,941 - $250,390/yr.

Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor manages the pharmacist staff providing clinical pharmacy services to the Medical Center’s patients. The Supervisor develops educational and training programs for the department to assure the competency of the pharmacists delivering those services. He/she develops, markets, implements and evaluates clinical programs that meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the medical center’s patients. The Supervisor maintains accountability for departmental quality assurance/improvement in regard to clinical activities including drug use evaluation, adverse drug reaction monitoring, clinical interventions, and providing drug information. He/she supervises pharmacists and precepts pharmacy students on rotation from schools of pharmacy. As necessary, the Supervisor participates in direct patient care activities.
Job Specifications:
Education:
- Requires graduation form an accredited school of Pharmacy with Pharm.D degree.
- Strongly prefer completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residency program.
Experience:
- Two years’ experience in an acute care hospital pharmacy preferred.
License:
- Licensure as a pharmacist in the state of California required.
Duties:
- Manages the provision of clinical services consistent with patient focused pharmaceutical care.
- Designs and participates in clinical initiatives while determining workflow for clinical tasks and duties to be performed by clinical specialists.
- Assures the daily monitoring of patients' therapies, including pharmacokinetic monitoring of patients for appropriateness of indication, dosage, duration, untoward effects and clinical progress.
- Assures intervention when medication orders are unclear, inappropriate or sub-optimal.
- Enforces the closed drug formulary, evaluating use and need while suggesting alternatives and promoting cost-effective medication selection.
- Oversees the instruction and supervision of pharmacy students and externs from schools of pharmacy.
- Manages clinically relevant drug information given to physicians, nurses and patients.
- Assures patient discharge medication teaching as required.
- Ensures the accurate and efficient identification and resolution of clinical problems by the pharmacist staff.
- Engages in regular, continuous decision-making, impacting people, costs and quality of service.
- Participates in the identification and establishment of programs and procedures that ensure cost-effective drug therapy.
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations and standards of practice.
- Promotes a positive, supportive environment within the department and Medical Center by demonstrating a pleasant and helpful attitude.
- Attends staff meetings, contributing to meeting agendas, discussions and problem resolution.
- Contributes, via presentation, to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
- Participates in department projects or committees.
- Participates in Medical Center committees as assigned.
- Ensures collection and assembly of departmental clinical quality assurance data, as well as instructions within the department to improve or ensure threshold compliance.
- Participates in the development and execution of drug utilization reviews.
- Identifies needs and provides education to pharmacy staff and other departments via informal and formal methods, such as in services and newsletters.
- Coordinate training/orientation program for all new staff pharmacists.
- Delegates response to Code Blues with appropriate participation.
- Regular attendance at interdisciplinary patient care meetings, and other applicable meetings, committees, etc.
- Manages the duties and responsibilities of the pharmacists and pharmacy students in providing pharmaceutical care including the preparation and performance of their annual performance evaluation following approval by the Director of Pharmacy.
- Chair Staff meetings in Director’s absence as assigned.
- Assist with policy interpretation, resolution of conflicts with MDs, and make emergency decisions.
- Commitment to concept of delegation and team leadership of staff.
- Commitment to participation in transformation of clinical work processes at MarinHealth Medical Center.
