Job Description Summary:
The Cardiac Sonographer (CS) performs all echocardiograms and maintains supplies/records relevant to the Echocardiography department. The primary role of the Cardiac Sonographer is to obtain diagnostic recordings of cardiac ultrasound images, Stress Echos and Doppler hemodynamic data.
Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:
EDUCATION
High School graduate required. Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited diagnostic medical Sonography and Cardiovascular Technician program and/or eligible for RDCS credential. Must be RDCS within one year of employment.
EXPERIENCE
Three years full-time experience in an equivalent position preferred.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
Demonstrates skill with scanning and reporting transthoracic, and stress echocardiography
Arrhythmia interpretation skills preferred.
LICENSE/REGISTRATION CERTIFICATION:
BLS certification. Credentialed as RDCS/RDMS, or eligible. Must complete within one year of hire.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)
Performs:
Transthoracic echocardiograms: 2-Dimensional, M-Mode, and Doppler (PW, CW, Color Flow), Agitated saline study, Contrast, Pedoff
Exercise or pharmacological stress echo
Identifies pathophysiology and modifies exam appropriately.
Makes quantitative and qualitative assessment of echo and Doppler data.
Orders and stocks all supplies.
Operates PACS digital workstation, i.e., reviews studies and generates preliminary reports.
SECONDARY (modifiable)
