Job Description Summary:
Responsible for the credentialing and privileging operations for MHMC medical staff and affiliated allied health professionals. Provides leadership and direction to Medical Staff Department organizational, administrative, educational and credentialing functions within established objectives and policies set by Medical Staff and Medical Center leaders and the Board of Directors. selects and develops new/existing talent to support the continued credentialing and privileging in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Oversees appropriate application processing of new and existing physicians and advanced providers, and ongoing competency review processes for physicians and advanced providers delivering care at MHMC. Facilitates and oversees monthly approval process and appropriate follow-up of recommendations and approvals through regularly held committee review bodies. Applies functional knowledge and development of medical staff credentialing and privileging standards/policies and operations to advise and collaborate with MHMC leadership in accomplishing strategic objectives. Ensures compliance with medical staff functions required by regulatory and accreditation bodies and established, and maintains confidentiality of medical staff records.
Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years equivalent experience/training required.
EXPERIENCE
1. 4 years relevant management work experience in similar work environment (i.e. leader, manager, director or supervisory role).
2. Applicable experience in Medical Staff Services of a community hospital
3. Direct experience with CALS and ACCME survey processes and medico-legal aspects of oversight of Medical Staff functions and activities preferred
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Certification in Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) preferred and required within 18 months of hire.
2. Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred if candidate does not hold CPMSM. candidates with a CPCS (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist) or CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) in addition to CPMSM will be preferred.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
1. Expert knowledge of Joint Commission, NCQA, CMS, DHS, AACME and other applicable accreditation/regulatory requirements pertaining to medical staff services.
2. Strong strategic skills to develop long-range plans, and abilities to solve complex, wide-reaching problems when no precedent exists.
3. Ability to exercise professional judgment in handling sensitive and confidential issues with discretion. Demonstrated sensitivity to political situations and confidential issues. Ability to develop and maintain positive interdepartmental and organizational relationships.
4. Knowledge of organization structure and change management skills to streamline systems and design processes to improve the efficiency of operations
5. Strong collaboration skills, and ability to build and maintain relationships with physicians, clinical department heads, and senior management
6. Strong management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Successful background working with peers, patients, multidisciplinary team members, executives, assigned staff, and representatives of regulatory agencies
7. Thorough knowledge of relevant software programs, e.g., MS Office, Credential Stream , RL Datix, MIDAS application. Familiarity with database management and effective use for medical staff services support.
8. Experience with CME program management.
