Job Description Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for the coordination of scheduling of procedures and
services between Surgical Service departments and the Anesthesia Department. The Patient
Scheduler is the primary point of contact between the Perioperative Business Office and
physician’s offices in the scheduling of elective and non elective surgery. The incumbent is
expected to prepare, enter, correct, colligate, and assimilate information and data that will
support the organization. This position interfaces with vendor representatives, surgeons, offices,
and staff to ensure that all equipment, items, instruments are coordinated for surgical procedures
in collaboration with perioperative forecasting. Responsible for performing other duties as
required or assigned to support the Perioperative Business Office.
Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:
EDUCATION
High school diploma.
EXPERIENCE
1. Working knowledge of medical terminology required.
2. One year prior surgical scheduling experience preferred.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
1. Comprehensive knowledge of requisite McKesson modules or other scheduling programs.
2. Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as the ability to generate practical documents.
3. Ability to operate various office machines such as telephone, FAX machines, copiers, etc.
4. Ability to work independently within department and within hospital policies.
5. Ability to function within a high-tension level and noisy environment.
6. Good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
7. Ability to work effectively and tactfully and to represent MGH appropriately when interacting with public, staff, physicians and other departments.
