Job Description: Oversees and manages the gifted education program within schools across the district under the direction of the teaching and learning department, including identifying gifted students, communication with families and community, developing and implementing differentiated curriculum, providing and coordinating professional development for all stakeholders, collaborating with administrators, teachers and parents, ensuring compliance to state operating standards and procedures, data reporting and ensuring appropriate enrichment opportunities for gifted learners across the district.
Qualifications:
- Holder of valid Ohio teaching certificate/license, including Gifted Intervention Specialist K-12 license or endorsement or ability to obtain this.
- Must hold a limited or continuing contract with the Marion City School District
- Knowledge and ability to perform in the assigned position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Essential Functions:
Identification, Acceleration and Service
- Update gifted shared drive with individual referrals and individual testing results
- Update the gifted shared drive with whole-grade screening results and parent/teacher/counselor/principal notifications
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Teaching and Learning department on approved gifted assessments, scheduling, administering, scoring, and analyzing.
- Coordinate visual and performing arts identification process
- Notify parents of available services for newly identified students and coordinate with building principals/teachers
- Assign students to gifted service providers in gifted shared drive
- Generate list of students who qualify for advanced class placement at GMS/HHS
- Collaborate with MS/HS counselors and administrators to ensure acceleration and student services in advanced course work.
- Develop, print, and prepare all necessary parent notifications
- Ensure all WAPs are completed in a collaborative manner and families have copies of the plan.
Compliance
- Assist gifted service providers with WEP writing
- Ensure all WEP’s are completed and updated including authoring CCP WEPs
- Provide monthly update on number of gifted students in each building and number of WEP’s written each month to curriculum supervisor and director of teaching and learning
- Review gifted identification numbers and areas for service revisions
- Monitor and ensure completion of required professional development of gifted service providers
- Ensure OAC 3301-51-15 is followed for services
- Follow any and all procedures and timelines related to gifted services
- Gifted and accelerated EMIS reporting–Ensuring FB-student acceleration record, GG- student gifted education record, and FA-student assessment record are correct and updated.
Gifted Programming
- Review data for trends in academic achievement and growth of gifted students
- Coach and provide resources to gifted service providers across the district to meet the need of gifted learners
- Provide professional development to stakeholders to meet the needs of gifted learners
- Coordinate and meet with district gift coaches regularly and align and direct responsibilities
- Conduct parent meetings(gifted open house, p/t conferences, CCP, individual meetings)
- Draft the gifted service plan for district and state compliance.
- Assist with the policy/plan for gifted services
- Coordinate and collaborate with the teaching and learning team on early entrance to kindergarten-processing applications/referrals, scheduling assessments, acceleration committee duties.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning special events
- Ensure the safety of students
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgement
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
- Attend professional development as it relates to gifted education and stay up to date with all gifted requirements
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Attend Open House and other afterschool events related to gifted learners.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships
- Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required
- Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for Licensed Educators
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality
- Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education Policy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning/designee
Additional Working Conditions:
- After school and possible weekend work
- Lift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and materials up to a maximum of 50 pounds
