Classroom Teacher Aide - Instructional Aide Building: Grant Middle School
This is a 7-hour day-1330 hours per year position and will be paid as per salary schedule. Persons applying for this position must have a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; they must have or be willing to obtain a State of Ohio Department of Education Teacher Aide Permit, along with the Highly Qualified Requirement of the No Child Left Behind. Persons applying for this position may need additional training to meet requirements for Step Up to Quality and the Early Childhood Education Grant. Teacher Aide experience would be helpful.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Classroom Aide - Instructional Aide
RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Administrator/Classroom Teacher/Director of Student Services
DEPARTMENT: Aides/Clerks
CLASSIFICATION: Instructional Aide
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine-month contract - 190 days at 7 hours per day – total of 1330 hours per year
GENERAL DUTIES: The Instructional Aide will provide support and assistance to teachers and students in an educational setting, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, patience, and a passion for working with students of all abilities. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students and contribute to their academic and personal growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in education or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience working with students, preferably in an educational or youth-oriented setting.
- Knowledge of educational principles and practices, including different learning styles and instructional strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the needs of individual students.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational software and technology.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Flexibility to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently as required.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification) is desirable.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Collaborate with teachers to implement lesson plans and instructional activities.
- Assist students with assignments, projects, and classroom activities.
- Provide individualized support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities or learning difficulties.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student engagement and participation.
- Monitor and manage student behavior, ensuring a safe and respectful classroom environment and transition between classrooms.
- Offer guidance and encouragement to students, promoting their academic and personal development.
- Help maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and other relevant information.

Assist with personal care tasks, including changing diapers, feeding, and toileting, for
students who require assistance - Support students during tests and assessments, ensuring a fair, inclusive and secure testing environment.
- Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and classroom resources.
- Collaborate with other educational professionals, such as counselors and therapists, to support student development.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as required.

The aide shall hold an Ohio Educational Aide permit as defined in section 3319.088 ORC.
