State of Ohio Certification for Occupational Therapy. 

Shall meet requirements of law and be governed by Ohio Law.

Good attendance and work experiences. 

Valid Driver's License.

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.                                               

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may

find appropriate and acceptable.

 
Terms of Employment:       

Contract, salary, and benefits per negotiated agreement.
 
Job Goal:

The major role is to assist participating districts in identifying and evaluating children who require occupational therapy and provide services directly and/or through supervision of OT Assistant(s).                                       
 
Performance Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate eligible students for occupational therapy as part of the multifactoredevaluation and as referred from staff.
  • Determine which students will receive occupational therapy and the level of service to be provided 
  • Assist in the development of the individualized education program 
  • Provide the occupational therapy (directly and/or through supervision of OT Assistant) which will increase the student's ability to function in an educational setting
  • Serve as a consultant to the classroom teachers within the district. 
  • Provide counseling and guidance to parents and teachers regarding occupational therapy disabilities
  • Maintain records as required by Marion City Schools policies; maintain professional ethics 
  • Provide a basic tutor program for occupational therapy students consistent with Ohio Department of Education, Special Education Division code requirement.
  • Fulfills the same time schedules as all teachers at respective buildings as to time of arrival and departure at school (except as determined for each child's needs building site of service as determined by student services supervisor) 
  • Requisitions materials and supplies from the student services supervisor for distribution to student(s) 
  • Tutors with a special plan each day with emphasis on individualized instruction, and I.E.P. objectives 
  • Assists school psychologists with placement recommendations and testing procedures 
  • Makes special efforts, including home visits, parent conferences, and written reports to keep parents informed 
  • Is aware of current methods of instruction as they relate to Occupational Therapy 
  • Implements behavior modification techniques as needed in order to promote positive behavior pattern 
  • Cooperates with other classroom teachers in the sharing of students 16. Presents clear, complete, and accurate explanations suitable to level of learners 
  • Gives positive reinforcement for acceptable academic and social behavior; provide motivation to students who have a short attention span 
  • Keeps attendance records and all other records pertinent to the Occupational Therapy program for state reporting 
  • Attends district, and faculty meetings (seminars, conferences, workshops, and so forth) as adopted in the MCS’s policies and procedures 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent

 Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required.
  • Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain knowledge of academic area, teaching methodology and strategies to engage students.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgement.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
  • Attends meetings, professional development and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  • Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy.
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect district equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Plans purposeful assignments for instructional aides.
  • Ensure the safety of students.
