Position Summary:
Under limited direction, the Manager, Acquisitions & Collection Development manages the order and selection of materials for the library; collaborates on system-wide collection management process and procedures (with Polaris and collectionHQ); compiles materials budget reports; acts as a member of the management team for Collection Management-Technical Services. The Manager is responsible to plan, direct, and oversee the operations and fiscal health of the ordering and selection department. The Manager provides departmental leadership and direction in support of the organization’s goals through staffing, training, performance management, and directing department workflow. The Manager is also responsible for planning and maintaining work systems, procedures, and policies that enable optimal performance of the employees, volunteers and other resources within the department.

- Master’s degree
- Indiana Librarian Certification 2 – Branch or Department Head
- Three to five years of experience
- Supervisory/Management experience preferred
- Collection Development experience preferred
What does the job look like?
- Manages workflow and work assignments for assigned personnel to ensure prompt and accurate selection of new material, and prompt responses to patron requests. Monitors effectiveness of collection development.
- Recruits, supervises and manages an efficient team of centralized ordering and collection development staff members.
- Coordinates department’s use of the ILS Acquisitions system using fund accounting and vendor electronic ordering systems and manages EDI setup to support department workflow with vendors, Accounting, and other collection management departments.
- Works with system-wide staff to actively perform assessment focused data collection and analysis for managing the collection development needs and interests of patrons in the community.
- In coordination with others, develops and maintains guidelines for collection development, assessment, floating rebalance, deselection and maintenance using the ILS (Polaris) and collection management tools such as collectionHQ.
- Communicates collection news to library staff and patrons through presentations, emails, branch site visits, Sharepoint news/sites, newsletter articles and more.
- Supports collection needs, collects data and completes reports for grants, for Collection Management and when collection components of public service grants for the system.
- Responsible for managing special collection projects including the Center for Black Literature and Culture, the Indianapolis Special Collections Room, refreshes/renovations/opening day collections and other special projects.
- With leadership guidance, collaborates on the preparation and allocations of annual materials budget. Compiles and monitors budgets and expenditures for centralized materials budgets. Works with IT and Accounting to ensure accurate reporting of expenditures.
- Leads Request for Reconsideration ad hoc teams in a timely manner when requests are received.
- Strong dedication to intellectual freedom and building diverse, equitable, and inclusive collections.
- Responsible for keeping up to date with conditions, developments, and future trends in the library acquisitions and collection development fields.
- Looks for opportunities to enhance both the collection and the patron's experience.

- Fosters productive relationships with colleagues, patrons, and leadership.
- Maintains shared team files using collaboration tools (Sharepoint and Microsoft Teams), with suitable categorization, labeling and accessibility while adhering to library and state record retention policies.
