Position Details
- Title: Manager, Center For Black Literature & Culture
- Location: Central Library
- Hours: Full -time, 40 per week
- Schedule: May vary but will include a combination of day, evening, and/or weekend hours (including occasional Sundays)
- FLSA Status: Exempt

A successful candidate will…
- Have an MLS degree.
- Have an Indiana State Specialist Certificate – Professional Assistant
- Three to five years of experience in a public library or special collections setting.
- Valid Driver’s License
What does the job look like?
- Seeks and develops community partnerships to promote the special collection as a community resource center for educational activities. Develops appropriate partnerships with neighborhood groups. Maintains a library presence in the community through presentations, email, social media and publicity.
- Works with Support Departments to manage vendors when carrying out CBLC projects.
- Prepares and gives presentations as part of community outreach activities.
- Oversees plans for community services and programs; schedules, delivers and evaluates programs based on participant feedback, changing demographics, and customer needs and interests.
- Directs staff in the maintenance of the collection. Recommends new materials, organizes displays to promote the collection, evaluates, and discards damaged or lesser used titles.
- Connects and collaborates with internal and external partners to create or acquire exhibits and programming.
- Assists in the collection and analysis of data related to special collection materials and utilization. Oversees department budget.
- Researches, recommends and instructs patrons on resources, technology and use. Instructs patrons using print and electronic sources to access information.
- Creates procedures for making materials available to staff and patrons while also protecting the integrity of the collection.
- Trains and manages volunteers and assigned team members.
- Conducts staff meetings to ensure regular communication of information to staff.
- Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
- Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
