Job Title: Prevention Specialist

Location: Marion County, SC

Reports To: Sheriff Department

Employment Status: Full-Time

Job Purpose: The Prevention Specialist is responsible for expanding prevention services targeting youth and underserved communities in Marion County. This position will contribute to substance use/alcohol/tobacco prevention efforts through community engagement, education, and resource distribution. The role involves planning, coordinating, and implementing prevention activities, such as health fairs, information dissemination, and Narcan distribution, while collaborating with schools and local organizations to create impactful, evidence-based programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement & Networking:
  • Act as a community resource by networking with various stakeholders including schools, law enforcement, social services, faith-based organizations, and local coalitions to broaden the organization's influence and promote prevention efforts.
  • Program Development & Implementation:

Develop and implement programs such as health and wellness surveys, drug and alcohol awareness initiatives, and career days in collaboration with Marion County Schools. Ensure programs are evidence-based and aligned with community needs.

  • Public Speaking & Education:

Conduct presentations and seminars to educate the public on substance use prevention. Represent the organization in a professional manner at community events and health fairs.

  • Data Collection & Evaluation:

Collect and manage data related to prevention activities, ensuring accurate documentation in DAODAS-approved databases. Evaluate program effectiveness and report on outcomes to inform future initiatives.

  • Narcan Distribution:

Lead efforts to distribute Narcan in high-risk areas throughout Marion County, ensuring the resource reaches those in need.

  • Communications & Marketing:

Assist in the development of the agency newsletter, press releases, and other communication tools. Help market the organization's mission to increase awareness and funding.

  • Compliance:

Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure all actions comply with DAODAS requirements and other applicable standards.

  • Collaboration:

Work closely with other prevention specialists to form a rapid response team capable of addressing emerging community needs.

  • Other Duties as Assigned:

Carry out additional responsibilities as needed to support the organization’s goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields include Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or Education from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with communities and youth, particularly in the areas of substance use/alcohol/tobacco prevention.
  • Familiarity with the DAODAS system is highly valued.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection, data management, and evaluation.
  • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to represent the organization effectively.
  • Must possess advanced computer skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain SCAPPA Prevention Certification within six months of hire and full certification within three years.

Salary: $45,000

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 per year
