Job Title: Academic Learning Specialist- Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Position Type: 240 days
Reports To: Chief Academic Officer
Job Description: Serves as an academic specialist to provide essential leadership for the district’s overall instructional program, specifically MTSS, through programmatic design, support, training, and coaching to build school and teacher capacity resulting in increased student achievement. The MTSS Academic Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting the effective implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework across the district. This role will collaborate with administrators, teachers, and support staff to develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based interventions and instructional strategies that address the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all students. The specialist will ensure data-driven decision-making processes are embedded within the district’s instructional framework to improve student outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, School Administration or a related field.
- Valid state teaching or administrative certification.
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Minimum of five years of teaching experience with demonstrated success in implementing MTSS strategies.
- Experience in coaching or providing professional development to educators.
- Strong understanding of data analysis and its application in instructional decision-making.
- Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices and interventions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
Essential Duties:
MTSS Framework Implementation: Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the MTSS framework, ensuring alignment with district and state policies.
Professional Development: Design and deliver professional learning opportunities for educators on evidence-based instructional practices, intervention strategies, and data- driven decision-making within the MTSS framework.
Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring: Support educators in collecting, analyzing, and using data to monitor student progress and inform instructional and intervention decisions.
Collaboration & Support: Work closely with school-based MTSS teams, administrators, and instructional staff to provide guidance on effective intervention strategies and best practices.
Intervention Coordination: Assist in the selection and implementation of evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions that address students' diverse needs. Tiered Support Systems: Develop and refine tiered levels of support to ensure that all students receive appropriate interventions based on their needs.
Resource Development: Identify, develop, and share instructional resources and tools that support MTSS implementation.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure district-wide adherence to MTSS guidelines, including proper documentation of interventions, progress monitoring, and data collection.
Family & Community Engagement: Provide training and support for families to understand MTSS processes and engage in their child’s academic and behavioral growth. Collaboration
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, interventionists, guidance counselors and other school staff to strengthen all aspects of the instructional program.
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with district-level learning specialists and program coordinators to ensure implementation of a multi-tiered system of support happens with fidelity.
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with feeder schools to strengthen vertical articulation and to create a seamless K-12 instructional program.
Work with administrators, teachers, and PLC’s to plan and schedule meetings and staff development sessions on the implementation and support of the district’s MTSS framework.
