Job Summary
This position consults with department managers to assist in development of specifications to establish needs. Prepares and executes purchase orders for procurement of goods and services necessary for efficient operation of the hospital. Orders from vendors using approved vendors, in accordance with established policies and specifications. Monitors vendor performance with agreed pricing, contracts and other items of purchase. Negotiates competitive prices with vendors and provides cost analysis to departments and committees for review. Represents the Purchasing department on committees, and provides leadership consistent with current contracts and department policies. Performs other duties as assigned..
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or its equivalent.
Valid driver’s License and proof of insurance with the minimum liability limits detailed in the Administrative Policy on “Insurance Coverage Required for Use of Employee Owned Vehicles.”
Minimum of two (2) years healthcare experience acceptable to Materials Management.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
Excellent time management, and organizational skills. Requires ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
Developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office, telephone system and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
Excellent customer service skills.
High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.
Working Conditions
Typical office environment with prolonged sitting.
Work maybe subject to interruptions.
Ability to work occasional extended hours, evenings and / or weekends based on the needs of the department.
Some travel could be necessary, with occasional overnight stays.
Works with protected health information.
