What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant High School Band Director position at Marion School District?
The Marion School District is seeking to hire an Assistant High School Band Director. A high brass or percussion specialist is preferred, but all applicants will be considered. Applicants will go through an initial screening process and finalists will be invited to campus for an interview and audition process that will include directing three separate ensembles.
Position Functions/Purpose:
Assist in all areas of the Marion Band Program as directed by the Director of Bands. Report directly to the High School Principal and the Director of Bands. Provide students the opportunity to participate in band activities and ensure compliance with AAA and ASBOA, and Marion School District requirements. Assist in planning activities to achieve district, region, state, and national recognition for the Marion Band Program.
Major Responsibilities:
- Direct, assist, supervise all school band performances, including marching band, concert band, pep band, and jazz band.
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State and Local Board of Education policy, and AAA and ASBOA rules pertaining to band participation.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Assist with maintaining a current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Develop and implement plans for improvement and growth of band program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of this job:
- Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from an accredited university; valid Arkansas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject level assigned.
- Experience is preferred.
