POSITION SUMMARY: The Nutrition Program Specialist provides professional client, volunteer, and staff support services through coordination of nutrition programming logistics, client services, and volunteer supportive services, ensuring sound advocacy and guidance in accordance with DOEA guidelines. The Nutrition Program Specialist assist in outreach efforts by maintaining information related to outreach, volunteer services, programs, and agency related events. Asserts knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics of client needs, represents the organization in the community and establishes and maintains community partnership support. The position requires the ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities with a commitment to the agency and department’s goals and mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Upbeat and energetic individual with the ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities, internally and externally.
  • Responsible for clerical tasks, support and activities relating to daily operation of nutrition and outreach related programs.
  • Perform community outreach to promote activities and programs as needed.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to enhance the recruiting, screening, interviewing and training of new volunteers.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends if needed.
  • Assist in program delivery through phone calls to clients, volunteers, and agency partners.
  • Maintain and track program services and documentation of service provided.
  • Coordinate and maintain computerized and/or hard copy files of volunteer records and preparation of required monthly, bi-annually, and annual reports.
  • Assist in meeting program service goals as requested by the department, agency, and/or funding source.
  • Assist with coordination of community, public relations campaigns, and media relationships to encourage volunteerism.
  • Remain current in knowledge regarding office systems and software, trend issues and be able to implement program and report changes.
  • Communicate with necessary agency staff and Director to inform of potential problems/changes in status of clients, programs, and volunteers.
  • Ability to develop training and/or informational materials to enhance operation efficiency and quality service assurance.
  • Complete service-related incident/problem reports and satisfaction surveys as needed.
  • Assist with initial application required for the purpose of gathering information about the client’s needs for services and continuing eligibility for programs.
  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has entry-level supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree

OR

  • Two years of related experience preferred in Human Services/Customer Services field.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, Word & Excel, knowledge of database and publishing programs
  • Must have own reliable/available transportation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Class E Driver’s License and Driving record that meets with company’s commercial insurance standards is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret common program guidelines and procedures such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply or divide numbers. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with issues involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Variety of walking, standing, sitting, stooping. Requires normal range of hearing, vision, and manual dexterity to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator, and other office equipment as needed. Occasional stress from dealing with multiple demands and users.

Office setting. Travel to designated locations as needed, must have reliable transportation. Frequent contact with clients, staff and public.
