Type: Regular, Full-Time

Shift: Typically Monday – Friday (8:30 - 5:00, Must be available for special events evenings and weekends)

Status: Exempt

Salary: $69,992.00 (Entry) - $87,490.00)

Benefits: Health (Employee Only, 2 options $50 a month, employer paid dental & Vision)

403b with Company Match / PTO/Sick up to 19 days accrued per year and 11 Paid Holidays annually

Reports To: Director of Philanthropy and Communication


 SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Communication, the Development Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies designed outlined in the Center’s Fund Development Plan to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective individual and corporate donors. Through the use of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, the Development Officer, will be responsible for managing an active portfolio of individual and corporate donors, preparation of gift proposals and pledges, and the tracking of all donor and prospect interaction. This position represents the Center and maintains regular interaction with donors, prospective donors, and the community 

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Solicit donations from NEW individual donors and corporations to support the programs and services of Marjaree Mason Center.
  • Increase the capacity of MMC by increased levels of giving from current donors and developing new relationships;
  • Cultivate and engage donors through personal contacts, in-person meetings and/or presentations, telephone calls, electronic media, and other mediums;
  • Prepare comprehensive proposals for gift opportunities in response to inquiries and cultivation;
  • Record all meeting notes, donor relayed information, correspondence, and phone conversations within the CRM system;
  • Maintain an active list of contacts and continually add new prospects;
  • Provide a weekly list of prospective contacts and visits that record donor activities for Director review;
  • Work with the Fund Development Committee of the Board to support donor solicitation goals;
  • Plan and execute sponsor recognition and celebratory events
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to the Director of Philanthropy and Communication. Specific individual fundraising goals will be established by the Director annually in order to meet or exceed departmental fundraising goals;
  • Be responsible for specific assignments and projects in the planning and implementation of a capital campaign;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of fundraising events including sponsorship acquisition (both new and current donors), event donations, sponsorship/guest coordination, etc. Annual events include but are not limited to: Marjaree’s Birthday Soiree (March), Men’s Leadership Council Golf Classic (May) and the Top Ten Professional Women & Leading Business Awards (October). 
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the Share Your Heart annual cause marketing campaign within the business community 
  • Utilize appropriate methods of accepted fundraising practices and be aware of the costs of fundraising efforts to achieve stated goals;
  • Be available, as needed, to speak to members of the media and/or give community presentations regarding the basic operations of MMC and financial opportunities;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;
  • Adhere and comply with the confidentiality of donor information per the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethics;
  • Use of own vehicle will be required;
  • Regular attendance and      promptness are considered part of each employee’s essential job functions.
  • Ability to adapt to the environment, to solve practical problems, to deal with a variety of multiple variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and to make independent decisions within scope of responsibility.

The Development Officer is expected to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out job duties; and is expected to perform solely exempt type duties more than 50% of work time during the workweek.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; with coursework in business, communications, or other related field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in fund-development, or related field.
  • Experience in direct asking for and closing of donations and building/maintaining long-term relationships      with constituents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to work effectively with the Fresno community and business leaders;
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising principals;
  • Ability to work outside the traditional work day as needed to build and maintain donor relationships;
  • Excellent and effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or organizations;
  • Ability to communicate verbally, information and ideas so others will understand;
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
  • Skills in problem resolution and problem solving;
  • Computer proficiency and database experience.
  • Ability to work independently, and within diverse work teams; positive attitude and flexibility;
  • Demonstrated ability to work      with sensitivity and without discrimination towards peoples of diverse      cultures, races/ethnicity’s, socio/economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental challenges/disabilities and sexual orientations;
  • Understanding of the Cycle of Violence, domestic violence barriers, and survivor needs;
  • Ability to understand the needs of adults, families, and children and a willingness to address their      concerns with action designed to create change; sensitivity to issues pertaining to domestic violence.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance on personal auto.
  • Must be insurable at all times at standard rate set by MMC insurance carrier.
  • Must pass tuberculosis test, drug test, and fingerprinting test.
