JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for negotiating, procuring, and expediting purchased parts and materials in support of the company’s Master Production Schedule and inventory objectives.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review planned order requirements or Kanban replenishment signals for assigned purchased components and place purchase orders with suppliers.
- Process purchase requisitions to procure required components or materials.
- Monitor and react to system database to reschedule messages and or cancel messages in a timely manner.
- Monitor inventory levels of assigned components. Adjust ordering methods to assure appropriate level of material flow.
- Expeditiously respond to requests for status of purchase orders, or short lead time requests supporting Aftermarket or production needs.
- Negotiate and implement cost containment and reduction opportunities.
- Recommend to manufacturing and engineering, process improvement ideas developed internally or jointly with suppliers.
- Analyze the requirements of materials, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and the date material is needed.
- Solicit and evaluate proposals for requested materials.
- Investigate and/or interview potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
- Assure materials are delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meet the quality standards of the company.
- Maintain timely controls of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
- Coordinate appropriate methods needed to distribute commodities in a cost-effective manner.
- Evaluate near misses and accidents and implement necessary policies to eliminate risk.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Must have a hands-on in-depth knowledge of inventory management.
- Excellent communication skills, presentation and writing skills.
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to negotiate.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent follow-up and problems solving skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 2 years of purchasing experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Oracle manufacturing software (version 11.5.10 or higher) preferred but not required.
- Manufacturing work experience; lean and continuous improvement methodologies experience a plus.
- APICS or CPM certification desirable
