What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exhibitions Assistant position at Mark Arts Inc.?
Role:
The Exhibition Assistant is responsible for packing, unpacking, and crating of art objects and the installation/de-installation of artwork and exhibitions under the direction of the Exhibition & Engagement Director. This staff member will assist with maintenance and organization of art storage areas and exhibit preparation spaces. The Exhibition Assistant works on an as-needed basis and their schedule is dependent upon the exhibition schedule.
Essential Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and assist with the unpacking/packing, condition reporting, preparation, and installation/de-installation of artwork and exhibition signage for Mark Arts exhibitions for public display.
- Maintaining the gallery environment utilizing hand tools/equipment for repairs such as sanding, filling, patching, and painting exhibition walls.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: 1-2 years of art handling and/or exhibit preparation preferred.
Education: BFA or related degree preferred but not required.
Other Skills: Strong attention to detail.
Ability to package artwork for shipping/delivery.
Knowledge of art storage and display methods, techniques and procedures.
Excellent organization skills
Physical/Environmental: Frequently lifts, carriers, or otherwise moves and positions artwork. Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Frequently climbs ladders to install and deinstall artwork. Must be able to twist and turn wrists. Job requires clear vision, distance vision, color and peripheral vision with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. There is moderate noise in this working environment.
