Position Overview:
Mark Kislingbury Academy of Court Reporting, a leader in training the next generation of court reporters, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Court Reporting Instructor. This position offers the opportunity to work with students at various skill levels, helping them achieve their goals and master the art of court reporting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach Classes:
- Q&A Class (All speeds) – Monday through Friday, 60 minutes
- Middle Speeds Class – Monday through Friday, 50 minutes
- Live Testing Class – Covering either High Speeds or Low Speeds (shared responsibility)
- Summer Technology Class (if proficient in digitalCAT) – Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:00-8:50 AM, June through August
- Student Support:
- Assist with grading in EV360 and update grades in Google Sheets.
- Provide tutoring or 1-on-1 practice sessions to students struggling with speed.
- Willingness to plan and lead student-optional activities for students to hone their skills, like live study group sessions, movie nights, etc.
- Content Preparation:
- Prepare dictation materials for Middle Speeds, Q&A, and Testing Classes.
- Record and upload 15-30 minute drill videos two to three times per week, covering topics such as:
- Number drills (single digits, hundreds, thousands, etc.)
- Addresses, names, businesses
- Jury Charge and car wreck briefs
- Medical, legal, and law enforcement briefs
- Q&A extensions
- Theory chapter content, finger spelling, and finger drills
Qualifications:
- Experience in court reporting is required.
- Proficiency in technology, particularly with digitalCAT, is preferred.
- Familiarity with Mark’s Magnum Steno Theory is a plus.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- A passion for mentoring and supporting students.
