What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Mark Thomas & Company?
Mark Thomas is hiring a Controller to help lead the Finance and Accounting Department! The Controller manages the daily operations of the finance and accounting department providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist management, its shareholders, and other users in making educated economic decisions about the Company's future.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures all accounting practices and processes are in accordance with mandatory and necessary state and federal laws and regulations.
- Leads the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits; develops and maintains the annual budget.
- Supervises departments disbursement activities, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, cash control, core payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
- Supervises the activities of the billing department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc.; funding service management, which includes weekly funding reports and customer service; quarter and year-end payroll closing including federal and state reports; and check statistic management.
- Manages month-end and year-end close; ensures GAAP compliance, etc.
- Assures corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax code.
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhances the Company's value.
- Acts as a point of contact and administrator of the 401k and ESOP program.
- Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.
- Promotes and supports a diverse and inclusive workplace.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; advance accounting degree preferred.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- CPA certification desired.
- 15 years of hands-on accounting managerial experience; at least 2 years in a private c-corporation or consulting firm preferred.
- Experience with Deltek software preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP and FAR regulations.
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication required.
- Ability to effectively manage and develop team members.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The base compensation range for this position is $125,000.00 - $205,000.00 annually.
