Qualifications:
Required: Minimum of sixty college credit hours or High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five years’ experience working with young children and families.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience: Knowledge of early childhood development. Understanding of and experience administering DESE approved screening instruments (ASQ 3, ASQ SE2, DIAL 4), functional vision/hearing screening, height/weight screening. Ability to present screening results to parent/guardian in an accurate, meaningful, and helpful way.

Purpose: Deliver screening services to children using the DESE approved instrument. Record and score the protocol as directed in the DESE approved instrument, conference with a child’s parent/guardian about the screening results.
Essential Job Functions:
- Attend work in a regular, reliable, and punctual manner.
- Prepare for screening sessions
- Handles preparation of paperwork for screening.
- Sets up screening area, if necessary.
- Greet and prepare families and children for screening process
- Introduces self to family.
- Explains screening process including consent form, screening protocol, vision/hearing, and health.
- Administer screenings
- Checks child’s height and weight.
- Administers approved screening instrument assessing language, concepts, and monitor development according to screening instrument guidelines.
- Administers vision and hearing using DESE approved functional assessment.
- Assis parent/caregiver with completion of questionnaires, health record, consent to screening form, and any other paperwork.
- Records all screening data on protocol and summary sheets.
- Meet with parents/guardians to explain screening results.
- Summarizes screening for parent/guardian using summary sheets and screening protocol.
- Explains appropriate developmental material for parent to take home which may include DIAL Parent Activities.
- Explains Parents as Teachers Program and offers to enroll the family.
- Listen actively to parent concerns or questions. Provides information or resources that may be helpful to parent.
- Perform additional duties as needed or assigned.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, hop, skip, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift-up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus and depth perception. Specific hearing abilities required include normal conversation and isolate voices in multiple conversations.
Work Environment/Conditions: The work environment involves an equipped screening room with minimal distractions. Parent may be present in the screening room. Screenings are completed at the Early Learning Center or another community location as scheduled.
