Job Summary:
The Assistant Cook is responsible for the preparation of food for the facility as indicated on the posted menu. The Assistant Cook will make the highest quality of food possible while maintaining and assuring the sanitation and safety of the dietary department.
Duties & Responsibilities:

- Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations, as well as our established policies and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining the Dietary Department in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with department personnel as well as other departments within the facility to assure that food service will be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Follow established dietary policies and procedures at all times.
- Follow safety regulations at all times.
- Prepare food in accordance with planned recipes, ensuring it is palatable and appetizing in a appearance.
- Assist in serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
- Assure that special order trays are correct.
- Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects that may become necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent care information of residents to assure that all residents rights are protected.
- Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc. as necessary.
- Follow in dietary procedures in accordance with established policies.
- Attend in-services, department meetings, etc., as directed.
- Verify invoices for the delivery of food and supplies as needed.
- Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to the Food Service Manager or Maintenance Department Manager immediately.
- Report all accidents/incidents as established by department policies and fill out and file reports as directed.
- Report complaints and grievances to the Food Service Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must have completed at least the eighth grade.
- Must show evidence of good physical and mental health.
- Must be able to deal with the residents and the public tactfully.
- Must possess the personal qualifications that make it possible to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Must enjoy working with the elderly.
- Must have knowledge of fundamentals of food preparation.
- Must be able to follow written and oral directions.
