Job Summary:
The Resident Associate Assistant will provide care and assistance to the residents as directed by the Housing Manager. The Resident Associate Assistant carries out tasks and duties that compliment the overall care of the resident as identified in the Resident’s Plan of Care.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Listed below is an outline of the duties and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. Every effort has been made to make your job description as complete as possible. - Follows established performance standards and duties per Markesan Resident Home’s Policies & Procedures.
- Requests clarification and/or training for policies and procedures that are not clearly understood.
- Assists new employees in following the established Policies & Procedures.
- Provides direct patient care as assigned, completing assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Identifies special resident problems and reports immediately to the Housing Manager.
- Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action immediately.
- Provides nursing care to residents without violating the “Resident’s Bill of Rights.”
- Participates in educational programs as assigned, i.e.: orientation, in-service, etc.
- Demonstrates an attitude of enthusiasm in resident care activities.
- Assumes personal responsibility for following Markesan Resident Home’s procedures relating to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.
- Assumes accountability for compliance to federal, state and local regulations within the span of control of the Resident Associate Assistant.
- Accurately documents incidents and/or unusual problems per the established procedure.
- Demonstrates consistent ability to work cooperatively with residents, other Resident Associates, physicians, families and consulting personnel.
- Participates in Markesan Resident Home’s meetings as assigned.
- Documents in the Resident Associate Notes each shift of duty and treatment provided to the resident.
- Reports change in resident condition immediately to the Housing Manager or Nurse-on-call, if at night.
- Greets residents by name and speaks to the resident and family members in a kind and thoughtful manner.
- Demonstrates concern for all residents’ welfare by rendering immediate assistance to any resident.
- Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability.
- Comes to work in a clean and neat uniform and consistently adheres to the dress code.
Housekeeping Duties:
- Perform the day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established housekeeping procedures.
- Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable, attractive manner.
- Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
- Assure that established Infection Control practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures.
- Assist residents with laundry as needed.
- Help maintain a clean, neat Bird Sanctuary.
- Check off all completed duties on the Housekeeping chart.
Activities:
- Leads, implements schedules activities in a timely, enthusiastic manner.
- Attempts to include all residents in activities by informing them of the time and type of activity.
Working Conditions:
- Works in all areas of the facility.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule certain activities.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
- Communicates with Assisted Living Personnel and other departmental personnel.
- Is willing to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
- Is subject to reactions from soap, bleach, cleaning and disinfecting solutions, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the day.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, etc.
- May be required to work on weekends and holidays.
- May be required to work on shifts other than the one hired.
Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Must be able to communicate the English Language at a 10th grade level.
- Must show evidence of good physical and mental health.
- Must be able to deal with the residents and public tactfully.
- Must possess the personal qualities that make it possible to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Must enjoy working with the elderly.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., throughout the workday.
