Job Overview

You will excel as a Client Engagement Lead (CEL) if you are able to provide the best service to our clients through exceptional communication, top-notch problem-solving skills, and the ability to be adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

This role is responsible for optimizing MPG’s relationship across all verticals to drive results with assigned clients. Through transparent communication, aligning work priorities and resources, the CEL’s primary focus is to seamlessly embed MPG within selected clients by providing proactive strategic direction supported with excellent in-market execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure MPG Is Serving As An Invaluable, Irreplaceable Partner In All Existing Engagements
    • Oversee MPG execution across the enterprise to ensure collective team is executing high quality deliverables, delighting clients and attaining KPI’s
    • Proactively enable strategic influence on Client’s businesses by sharing marketplace and industry insights to inform decisions
    • Preemptively identify and manage conflict(s) to minimize revenue loss or unexpected scope changes and avoid short-and long-term risk to both client and MPG business plans
  • Improve Enterprise-Wide Internal Accountability For Clients That Deliver Significant Value For MPG
    • For ease of Client communication and continuity, serve as primary contact point for total MPG
    • Within MPG’s matrixed structure, be authoritative and able to strategically influence, engage and motivate the MPG team’s commitment and accountability to delivering results
    • Clearly identify and interpret Client business requests and requirements and translate into work priorities and actions for MPG team members
    • Support managing deliverables with a strong focus on quality assurance and accuracy of data and information to meet/exceed client expectations, as stated in the client contract
    • Lead annual MPG Client engagements like Joint Relationship Planning, Executive Planning Meetings, Quarterly Business Reviews
    • Responsible for influencing the Client to provide what MPG needs to be successful while also registering MPG’s point of view on Client key decisions that will impact the customer
    • Serve as a Client strategic advisor to assist with retailer approach, preparation for industry conventions and events (ie. NACDS, TSE, Expo West, CHPA) and other potential marketplace engagements
  • Sustain Long Term Client Relationships Through Unwavering Client Intimacy Efforts
    • Create a pathway for client access to MPG Leadership, Vertical Leads, Subject Matter Experts and Industry Leadership, Retailer Decision Makers to support business results
    • Through stellar client engagement, intimate understanding of their business needs and critical strategic thinking, serve as a key MPG differentiator against other third-party agency competitors
    • Be a leading influence for extending MPG’s client partnerships for the long term and during contract renewal periods
    • Build strong relationships with key client stakeholders
  • Elevate Client Communication
    • Optimize the client relationship by facilitating transparent and consistent conversation between all appropriate MPG and client stakeholders
    • Establish an ongoing communication mechanism to share business status, results, issues, opportunities and insights throughout the broader MPG team (conference calls, meetings)
    • Serve as the MPG voice to the client by reporting back successes, wins, concerns, observations and risks
    • Appropriately elevate issues with MPG executive leadership
  • Generate New Business Development Opportunities
    • Help drive client growth by identifying business opportunities, corralling resources, leveraging total MPG network to offer solutions and support
    • Proactively identify future business development opportunities to expand MPG web of vertical support and connectivity around CEL clients
    • Provide perspective on proposals to ensure they meet clients’ needs, concerns and objectives and participate in pricing the solution/service
Qualifications And Required Skills

  • Ability to think critically and strategically about clients’ business needs, opportunities and solutions
  • Ability to engage the client at multiple levels
  • Ability to be assertive and influence (without authority) both clients and internal MPG resources
  • Ability to provide clear and consistent direction to both internal MPG and client team members
  • Ability to manage a great deal of complexity across multiple clients
  • Effective and efficient organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and keep promised outcomes on track
  • Strong communication skills that will allow for success in a virtual work environment
  • Proactive problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to listen, understand, and resolve competing priorities and complex issues
  • Ability to manage successfully in a matrix environment and build positive working interfaces across dotted line reporting relationships
  • Ability to work in a disruptive environment where priorities change rapidly and tight deadlines exist
  • Robust knowledge of consumer products industry and category, brand and retail strategies
  • Strong knowledge of key accounts (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, Amazon), with a foundational understanding of their operating practices and strategic priorities
  • Ability to utilize technology and data to efficiently manage output
  • Intimate understand of MPG key personnel and total capabilities is preferred
  • Potential to assume more responsibility in a future leadership role

Experience And Education

  • 15 years in consumer products sales, marketing, and/or consulting
  • Demonstrated leadership positions
  • Sales, customer, trade strategy experience required
  • Previous consulting/services experience preferred
  • Large CPG supplier experience preferred
  • 4-year college degree required
