Description

We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations, ensuring excellence in compliance, reporting, and operational efficiency. This role is pivotal to supporting our growth trajectory and maintaining robust financial management practices in a private equity-backed environment. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in government contracting, Deltek Costpoint, M&A integration, and private equity environments, coupled with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

Accounting Operations Oversight:

  • Oversee financial close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of accounts receivable, billing, revenue recognition, accounts payable, payroll, expense reimbursements, and contractor payments.
  • Manage and guide a team of four accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Implement treasury best practices to improve working capital efficiency, debt management, and cash reconciliation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and other government contracting regulations.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Lead due diligence, financial integration, and systems alignment for M&A transactions, ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Continuously refine and enhance the M&A Financial Integration Playbook, establishing a structured, repeatable framework with clear 30/60/90-day integration milestones.
  • Oversee the integration of general ledger, cost structures, revenue recognition, and accounting policies, ensuring full compliance with GAAP and CAS.
  • Develop standardized financial reporting and integration procedures to drive consistency across newly acquired businesses.
  • Collaborate with private equity partners to align financial performance goals and ensure strategic initiatives are met.
  • Monitor and optimize key financial KPIs, including DSO, DPO, month-end close cycle, aged AR, and aged AP, implementing improvement plans as needed.

M&A Integration & Private Equity Collaboration:

  • Support due diligence, financial integration, and systems alignment for M&A activities.
  • Lead the refinement and continuous improvement of the M&A Financial Integration Playbook to establish a structured, repeatable framework for acquisitions; inclusive of a 30/60/90 day integration milestones
  • Ensure seamless integration of general ledger, cost structures, revenue recognition, and accounting policies aligned with GAAP and CAS compliance.
  • Develop standardized financial reporting and integration procedures for newly acquired businesses.
  • Collaborate with private equity partners to align financial performance goals and strategic initiatives. 
  • Monitor and establish improvement plans around key financial KPIs (DSO, DPO, month-end close cycle, Aged AR, Aged AP)
  • Consolidate financial results of acquired companies as part of financial reporting.

Finance Process Improvement:

  • Drive continuous process improvements in accounting operations and internal controls within GL Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Expense Reporting, Treasury, and Deltek System Administration.
  • Interface with billable personnel to address finance-related inquiries and business needs.
  • Ensure accurate indirect rate development and analysis.
  • Prepare journal entries for complex financial transactions, including debt and trust-related accounts.
  • Optimize Deltek Costpoint SaaS ERP system with system upgrades, workflows, and other health check initiatives. 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years in accounting and finance, including team management.
    • At least 3 years in a Controller or equivalent leadership role within a private equity-backed organization.
    • Extensive expertise in Deltek Costpoint and government contracting, including knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance.
    • Proven experience with M&A integration and financial systems alignment.
    • Current US Citizenship is required with the ability to hold a clearance.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial reporting tools.
    • Strong knowledge of multiple contract types (T&M, Cost Reimbursable, Fixed Price) and applicable revenue recognition policies.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
    • Strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with executive leadership, stakeholders, and private equity partners.
  • Schedule:
    • This is a hybrid position that requires 3 days a week in office. 

Salary Range

USD $140,000.00 - USD $200,000.00 /Yr.The Markon pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.

Salary : $140,000 - $200,000
