Mark Thomas is hiring an experienced Senior Resident Engineer. The Senior Resident Engineer (SRE) uses their extensive engineering judgment and experience to evaluate project construction in compliance with the plans, specifications, standard plans, and standard specifications on projects. The SRE is ultimately responsible for the administration of the construction contract and has full authority in matters of safety related to imminent hazard or danger. This position is expected to develop their own client base through business development activities and a higher level of client care, developing long-standing, positive client relationships. The supervisory responsibilities include the training, development and mentoring of direct reports and assigned staff. The SRE will maintain broad oversight of the construction project and will communicate appropriately to all levels of staff, clients, and sub-consultants. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively works to expand and grow the CM team while successfully managing multiple construction projects of various sizes and complexity
- Makes all significant and final determinations regarding contract administration for all assigned projects
- Supervises all subordinates and subconsultants
- Maintains constructive relationships with the contractor and client
- Supervises and monitors project safety for Mark Thomas staff
- Supervises the inspection of work
- Understands, interprets, and exercises sound engineering determinations regarding the contract documents and field operations
- Resolves or facilitates the resolution of all discrepancies or problems with the contract documents and issues arising from field operations
- Creates and maintains open and productive communications among direct reports, subconsultants, the appropriate Mark Thomas management team members, contractors, clients, and the public
- Achieve established internal targets for financial success & utilization as established by CM leadership. Also monitor and achieve external financial targets for construction projects as set by client
- Provides ongoing training in & support of internal training programs; provides mentorship to junior staff members as needed
- Participates in project pursuits as assigned
- Participates in recruiting and interviewing potential CM candidates
- Monitor resources on CM projects to ensure adequate staffing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering
- 15-20 years of construction management experience to include field construction, contract administration, and negotiations, etc.
- Experienced in contract administration and negotiation of construction and construction management services contracts, and third-party agreements
- Demonstrated experience leading construction management function as a Resident Engineer (RE) or experienced Sr RE on Transportation projects
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license required; or PE in another state with the ability to obtain CA licensure within one year
- Experience with Caltrans highway/bridge construction is preferred
- Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Project
- Competent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of both internal and external project financials and metrics
- Willingness to travel
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
