Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and sustaining electromechanical product lines that service multiple industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electromechanical products for various industries, including marine, RV, electric motors, lighting, and signs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product design meets customer requirements and industry standards.
- Utilize SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailing, and other simulation software as needed.
- Work with the Director of Engineering and Sales & Marketing to capture product requirements and translate them into marketable design concepts.
- Research and understand applicable design and agency standards.
- Engineer and support new product designs from initial concept to manufacturing implementation.
- Oversee and maintain product BOMs and item masters within the ERP system.
- Implement knowledge of various manufacturing processes to create products designed for manufacturability.
- Clearly communicate and collaborate with the purchasing team to assist in sourcing manufacturing components.
- Provide detailed design presentations and build functional prototypes of new or improved designs.
- Test prototypes and production representative designs to ensure viability before releasing for production.
- Analyze test results and ensure compliance with all deliverables and standards.
- Oversee production ramp-up and ensure design manufacturability.
- Participate in the New Product Development Phase Gate process and the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- 3D modeling proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
- Drafting proficiency.
- Strong technical skills and understanding of engineering principles.
- Punctuality and work ethic.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding of GD&T.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection molding, CNC machining, die casting, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Experience with 3D printing.
- Experience with various hand tools and lab equipment.
- Experience in medium to high volume manufacturing.
- Some understanding of motors and electronics.
