SAM Construction Group is a fully integrated Developer/Builder of apartment communities who self-performs several scopes of work, including Concrete, Civil, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical and Roofing.
Projects:
Our initial project, Home at Maricopa, is a 536 Unit Multi-family community with 6 apartment buildings and a clubhouse on 18.8 acres in the City of Maricopa. The apartment buildings are 4 and 5 story concrete and steel construction buildings. The clubhouse is a single-story wood framed building. In addition, we have a second project starting construction in north Phoenix, with more projects to come.
Job Summary:
The survey technician will be responsible for collecting, monitoring, recording, and analyzing data related to geographic information systems (GIS), land surveying, and construction surveying on a project basis. This position will also consist of quality control by monitoring staking and ensuring trades are paying attention to staking provided by the third-party surveying company. Will train and support ideal candidate in obtaining their Professional Land Surveyor license.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducting field surveys: Conduct field surveys to collect data on land topography, boundaries, and other features using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and digital levels.
- Observe: Monitor construction operations for compliance with contract provisions, drawings, and specifications
- Staking: Considerable amount of knowledge in construction staking
- Recording data: The technician is responsible for recording survey data accurately using field notes, sketches, and digital tools.
- Data analysis: A survey technician is responsible for analyzing survey data to create maps, charts, and other graphical representations of land features.
- GIS data management: The technician is responsible for managing and maintaining GIS data related to land surveying and construction surveying operations.
- Equipment maintenance: A survey technician is responsible for maintaining surveying equipment and ensuring it is in good working order.
- Communication: The technician is responsible for communicating survey data and findings to surveyors, engineers, and other project team members.
- Safety compliance: A survey technician is responsible for complying with safety regulations and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Able to read and understand project blueprints
- Ability to use surveying/layout equipment such as Leica, TopCon or Trimble
- Geography skills, including understanding maps and landmarks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and providing feedback
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the land development/land survey industry
- Associate degree in Survey, geography, architectural or civil engineering preferred

- Experience with GPS survey equipment such as Leica, Trimble, Top Con, robotic Total Stations. Additional beneficial experience would be laser scanning and heavy equipment GPS systems.
- Experience with drone surveys would also be beneficial.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle physical labor and strenuous tasks.
- Able to stand and walk project site for extended period of times.
- Regularly talk and/or hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Occasionally required to but not limited to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics and tunnels.
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move at least 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
- Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Must be able to safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments and on concrete floors.
